Ethics are best learned through discussion, and sections are a critical part of this class. Coming to section on time and prepared is 20% of your course grade.
Sections are in person. If you feel ill or have been asked to quarantine, you may ask your TA if you can join via video that week.
Before each section, you will:
Students of all political persuasions should feel equally comfortable in this class. It is fine to disagree with someone or ask why they believe as they do, but please do so in a friendly and respectful manner.
The TAs will use this section grading rubric. Your lowest section grade will be dropped.
If you have a valid reason for missing section (like a job interview or illness--see main syllabus), then you may request to join a different section that week. To do that, send an email to the head TA, your TA, and the professor explaining the situation.
If you have a valid reason for missing section and can't attend a different section, you will be given an opportunity to do a make-up assignment. It will typically consist of answering all the questions of the section discussion in writing, with an additional essay asking you to reflect on the content. The make-up assignment is due two weeks after the section date and time, but extensions will be given for extenuating circumstances like prolonged illness. Contact your TA to request your make-up assignment.
