Dear , We are pleased to invite you to serve on the program committee (PC) of ICSE 2001, the 23nd International Conference on Software Engineering. The conference will be held May 12-19, 2001 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Weston Harbour Castle Hotel, which overlooks Lake Ontario. Hausi Muller, University of Victoria, is the General Chair of the conference (e-mail:hausi@csr.uvic.ca). As a program-committee member, you will have several important responsibilities: x solicit quality papers for submission to the conference, x personally review submissions, x attend the Program Committee meeting, x attend the conference, and x publicize the conference. Please consider the program committee member responsibilities (detailed below) before deciding whether or not to accept this invitation. If you think that you cannot fulfill these responsibilities, please do not accept our invitation. After these tasks are completed, PC members are expected to publicize and attend the conference. A more detailed description of PC member responsibilities, and the important dates, is attached. A conference web site has been set up at http://www.csr.uvic.ca/icse2001/ where you can get more information. Please let us know of your decision as soon as possible, but no later than ** WEDNESDAY August 25, 1999 **. There are a number of time-critical publicity milestones approaching and we want to include the names of the PC members in our advertising. If you accept our invitation, please return the following information so that we can be accurate in our publicity. Mary Jean Harrold and Wilhelm Schaefer ===== PROGRAM COMMITTEE MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES As a member of the committee, your responsibilities will be to: (1) SOLICIT QUALITY PAPERS FOR SUBMISSION TO THE CONFERENCE. At a minimum this will involve posting the Call for Participation. PC members are encouraged to submit papers to the conference, although the General Chair and the Program Co-chairs may not. We will handle papers submitted by committee members more carefully, and, to minimize conflicts of interest, we will enforce the confidentiality of reviews from other committee members. (2) PERSONALLY REVIEW SUBMISSIONS; The FIRM due date for submissions is 28 August 2000. Abstracts will be due two weeks before, on August 14, 2000. During the time from August 14 until August 28, PC members will review abstracts to declare conflicts and express interests in papers. PC members will be asked to review and agree to a conflict of interest statement prior to the assignment of papers. The bulk of the reviewing will be done from early September through the middle of October. It is difficult to predict exactly how many submissions we will receive, but past experience makes it likely that each PC member will need to review approximately twenty papers. PC members are expected to read and write reviews for every paper for which they have been assigned. PC members may solicit additional readers, but they must guarantee the confidentiality of the submissions and reviews. (3) ATTEND THE PROGRAM COMMITTEE MEETING. The two-day program committee meeting will be held immediately following FSE 2000, on November 11-12, 2000 in San Diego, California, USA. If you accept our invitation, you are committing yourself to attend this meeting. Your attendance is absolutely crucial, as our experience with other program committees has been that the opinions of absent committee members are largely ignored. (4) ATTEND THE CONFERENCE The week long ICSE 2001 conference will be held the week of May 12-19, 2001 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. PC members are expected to attend the conference and possibly chair a session (paper, panel, keynote, tutorial, etc.). (5) PUBLICIZE THE CONFERENCE PC members are expected to help publicize the conference by performing the following tasks: a. Forward the electronic version of the - ICSE 2001 URL (http://www.csr.uvic.ca/icse2001/), the Call for Papers, and the Preliminary Program to as many people as possible; b. Actively recruit delegates for ICSE 2001; c. Actively publicize and promote ICSE 2001.
