Introductory Walk in Metz
We began by heading west from Residhome until we hit a canal serving as
an auxillary route for the Moselle. The canal was surrounded by
parkland with shaded walks.
We followed the canal north to where it widened into a lake and provide
a splendid view of the Temple Neuf approach to the old part of the city.
We decided to explore the grounds a bit.
We had been told that the center point of the city was its
cathederal,
and that there would be a farmer's market today. But at this point we
were unsure what we were looking at.
We left the Temple's grounds, still trying to find the Cathedral and
the
farmers market.
Outside the front gate of Temple Neuf was Place de la Comedie.
Up one block and over, we finally found the magnificant St. Etienne's
Cathedral and the farmer's market. We browsed the market for a while,
and then headed into the Cathedral.
We had read that it was famous for its stained glass windows. Here are
some pictures
of the Cathedral.
On the next day, we took another short walk. We also started this one
out heading for the river because we had seen a nice park the day
before. The park is on an island in the river and fronts a mostly
surrounded open body of (river) water. We walked for a while, found a
bench and snacked on fruit and cookies we had brought with us.
